Crisis Stabilization Unit (click to view brochure-Adobe PDF required)

Netcare Corporation offers the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) to those clients who are referred from one of the Netcare's crisis centers.  Such individuals are referred to the program because they require a further period of stabilization before returning to their natural environment, but are not in immediate need of hospitalization.  This unit is located at 199 S. Central Avenue.  It consists of community areas and bedrooms that can accommodate up to nine (9) people.  Clients, ages eighteen (18) and older, are referred to the Crisis Stabilization Unit by a physician at one of the crisis sites.  The CSU offers individuals, deemed to be at a moderate to high risk, an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. Clients are admitted on a voluntary basis and may stay up to seven (7) days.  A multidisciplinary treatment team including physicians, registered nurses, licensed clinicians and mental health technicians will provide the client with the following:

              · Crisis intervention/stabilization

              · Psychiatric nursing assessment

              · Physical assessments

              · Medication/somatic services

              · Twenty-four (24) hour observation

              · Individual and group counseling

              · Linkage and referrals to longer-term services

              · Education needed to return safely into the community

A client’s discharge from the Crisis Stabilization Unit is based on his/her self-assessment and a clinically appropriate disposition reached by the treatment team.
