Post-Graduate Fellowship Program

Posted: 4/4/2008

Program Information

Eligible Applicants
Motivated and academically-minded students will be eligible for application to the training program just prior to MSW and MA graduation. ASAP/MSW graduates will be eligible as well. Further, any clinician who has at least one year left to obtain his or her independent license is eligible for application as well.

All graduates of an accredited MSW or MA program are eligible to apply for the Clinical Program. Additionally, all applicants accepted into the program must have their LSW, temporary LSW, or LPC by the time they begin the training program.

Application Process
Interested and qualified applicants may apply for a Clinical Fellowship in any open Crisis Intervention/Assessment or Youth Services clinician position on first or second shift during the week. The fluid structure of the Program allows for rolling admission and accepted applicants can enter at any point in the calendar year. Fellowship applicants will need to submit the following materials:
  • Fellowship Application (PDF)
  • Employment Application
  • Statement of Interest
  • CV or Resume
  • Graduate Transcript
  • Three (3) Letters of Academic or Professional Reference
Benefits
Fellows carry a 40 hour/week workload and are eligible for all full-time employee benefits. Additionally, they are eligible for paid overtime. Fellowship positions last for one year from start date and accepted applicants are expected to complete the one-year program. All accepted applicants who continue to excel in their work at Netcare may renew their fellowship for another year as a full-time employee.

Clinical Training
Netcare will provide accepted applicants with the following training presentations:

Other possible topics may include:

Fellows will be trained as Health Officers of Netcare (allows one to involuntarily hospitalize clients as needed) and will be trained in proper restraint procedures and protocols.

Additionally, each month all Fellows will present a case at the weekly Diagnostic Case Conference meetings (see section on Clinical Supervision). They will spend time performing assessments and crisis intervention in each of the areas of Adult Crisis, Adult Assessment, and Youth Crisis.

All Fellows will be given the opportunity to learn about Clinical Administration and Senior Management at Netcare.

Further, fellows may choose to observe a psychological interview by Netcare’s Forensic Psychologists. Those in the youth crisis concentration will spend time observing and assisting our pediatric psychiatrist.

Clinical Supervision
Senior Clinical Staff and independently licensed staff in the disciplines of social work, counseling, and psychology will provide supervision to all fellows. Supervision is conducted both individually and in group. Diagnostic Case Conference will meet weekly. Consultation is available on an as-needed basis. Additional supervision is available depending on the fellow’s assignments and other time commitments.
